Introducing Metrel end-of-line (EOL) testing solution

As was announced in the previous newsletter, we will deliver you information about our end-of-line (EOL) solution piecemeal and this newsletter, with more in-depth information about its purpose and with presentation of core elements, is one such example.

The purpose of our EOL testing suite is electrical safety testing in accordance with the EN 50191 standard and as such is designed for integration in existing and new production/testing lines. Thanks to the modular design encompassing a single control unit and several safety modules with complementary accessories and sensors, it offers unrivalled flexibility in tailoring the testing process to customer’s needs.
The MI 3394 CE MultiTesterXS is the central control unit of the entire suite and offers the same functionality as the base model it is derived from. Coupled with new support for communication with other elements of the suite and revamped safety mechanism for current limitation in selected HV tests, it acts as a communication relay between the testing (safety) modules and the rest of the production/testing line.

The safety modules are on the other hand application-specific and differ in supported safety mechanisms. The latter include RFID sensors (open/closed testing cage’s door), light curtains, two hand control protective device and a current limiting device – all in combination with emergency START/STOP switches. However, the modules are testing accessory agnostic, i.e. they can be used with any testing accessory (commander, test probe, crocodile clips etc.), and are integration friendly thanks to the pre-drilled holes for easy installation on any surface or in any enclosure. We have designed two typical enclosures that we intend to offer as a (optional) part of the suite, but that is a topic for a separate newsletter.

No comprehensive EOL testing solution is of course complete without PC software that ties all the elements (MI 3394 CE MultiTesterXS, safety modules, testing accessories etc.) together and in this case this is the Metrel ES Manager (MESM). Nevertheless, seamless integration with any existing software that controls the production/testing line would be an issue if it weren’t for the SDK that comes together with MESM.

The SDK enables the customer/user to use their existing software for communication with the various components of our testing suite without the need for MESM. How exactly it does that is again a topic for a separate newsletter, one of many that are going to follow this one, with more in-depth information about all the components of the suite and how they function in real life applications.
