Electrical Installations Safety

Electrical installation safety testing is a wide subfield of general electrical safety testing and encompasses both troubleshooting and fault-finding in complex industrial installations and simple, often periodic testing of only specific parts of the installation. The former usually requires the use of multifunctional testing devices, while the latter can be more conveniently done by testers with far fewer test and measurement functions.

Metrel has several dedicated single function electrical installation safety testers in its portfolio. Some are suitable for testing of low voltage installations protected by an IT earthing system as commonly found in hospitals, while others are dedicated IMD, ELM and RCM devices testers or support 1 or 2-clamp earth and ground resistance measurements.

  • Testing of IMD, ELM and RCM devices with ISFL pre-test and voltage balance evaluation.
  • Zloop L-N and L-L impedances at the entry and at the end of circuits, comparison of both results and dU calculation in %.
  • Earth bond testing with minimum 200 mA, 2 A, 10 A, both polarities and with support for inductive mode.
  • Insulation testing (switchboards, circuits, insulation of walls and floors, antistatic floors etc.).
  • PI / DAR calculation.
  • Testing of overvoltage varistors and surge arresters testing with up to 2.5 kV voltage ramp.
  • TRMS clamp-on leakage current measurement.
  • Testing of lightning systems and PE conductive loops with two clamps method.
  • Earth / ground resistance testing: 2-wire, 3-wire, 4-wire (optional), 1 clamp, 2 clamps.
  • AUTOSEQUENCE automatic tests.
  • Automatic evaluation of electrical safety in medical locations and of integrated IT systems and installations on vehicles, fuses and IMD, ELM, and RCM devices. Adjusted limits and tested results are combined together and evaluated simply as PASS / FAIL.
  • Insulation measurements and earth bonding continuity testing in industrial environments and for special installations.
  • Analysis of earth / ground resistance / soil resistivity in-line, triangle or mirror connection for close overlapped funnels on earthing systems in urban and industrial environment.
  • Report creator (EuroLink PRO software) with powerful two way communication.
