PORTABLE APPLIANCE SAFETY TESTERS
Portable appliance safety testers are multifunctional instruments that enable testing of various kind of electrical equipment, which is categorized as a portable. Different types of instruments are available due to a wide range of devices that must be tested. At the entry level the instrument can be battery operated only, and will cover most of the demands for testing of simple appliances, but further up we go the applications become more and more demanding. Therefore the high end test instruments are very complex devices, which can test everything from IEC leads, to white goods, protective equipment such as RCD and P-RCD, Arc welding devices, and also medical appliances.
Portable appliance safety testing is an important part of any health & safety policy. Primary goal is to use all electrical equipment without danger. Most people are not aware that every (even the smallest) piece of electrical equipment can cause fatal accident.
Common accidents caused by electrical equipment are:
- Injuries through electric shock caused by malfunctioned equipment;
- Injuries through overheated equipment;
- Fire and explosions.
Safety of electrical equipment is well covered by different standards that are dealing with product design, testing procedures, test equipment, service and maintenance, periodic verification etc.

Safety testing of portable appliances is required whenever:
